👩‍🏫 Sarah Heaton — Co-Founder & Ceramic Specialist

“There’s a rhythm to throwing on the wheel that’s incredibly meditative. It’s physical, tactile, focused—and utterly addictive.”

Sarah holds an MA in Ceramic Design, building on years of experience as a designer, maker, and educator. She’s known for her calm teaching style, gentle encouragement, and deep knowledge of throwing on the wheel.

Her background in both the creative industries and education gives her a unique ability to develop training that equips other teachers—not just students—with the skills and confidence to pass on the craft.

Sarah’s favourite things in the studio:

  • That first pull of clay on the wheel

  • Seeing a student’s eyes light up when their piece “clicks”

  • Glazing experiments gone right (and occasionally wrong!)

👩‍🎨 Helen Cammiss — Co-Founder & Artist

“Clay is elemental, so it reflects your energy. That’s why I love sculpting and handbuilding—it tells a story through texture and form.”

Helen holds an MA in Art Education and has a rich background in art education and teaching and is the creative mind behind The Clayrooms’ handbuilding and sculpture courses. She has a natural gift for helping people shape clay with intention and playfulness.

Her classes are warm, welcoming, and full of laughter and her teacher training skills have been honed over many years. Helen’s focus on using the best materials and processes ensures every maker, whether student or teacher, experiences the craft at its highest standard.

Helen’s favourite things in the studio:

  • That “aha!” moment when someone realises they can sculpt

  • Surface decoration and pattern play

  • Teaching people to love the imperfections that make pottery so humanend result.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 A Shared Vision

When Helen and Sarah founded The Clayrooms, their vision was clear: combine their professional expertise, artistic skill, and commitment to quality to create a pottery school unlike any other.

Both bring their unique backgrounds—Helen with her strong art education foundation, Sarah with her design and industry experience—and a shared belief in doing things the right way: using the best materials, the best processes, and the most thoughtful teaching methods.

Their role goes beyond teaching classes—they train the entire Clayrooms teaching team across all branches, ensuring every tutor shares their passion, knowledge, and high standards.
