This Sunday, sculptor Gwenda Jones ARBSA joins us at The Clayrooms Peak for a Horse Head Masterclass and every place around the table has already been taken. 🐴

Gwenda's lifelong connection with horses sits at the heart of her work, exploring their strength, sensitivity and character through form, gesture and beautifully expressive surfaces.

For one day, our makers get the opportunity to learn directly from her, exploring those ideas as they create and colour ceramic horse heads of their own.

Could you make your dog from clay? 🐾

Spend a day with animal sculptor Kate Berry and you might surprise yourself.

On Saturday 19 September, Kate returns to Wildhive Callow Hall for a full-day Dog Sculpting Masterclass, guiding you step by step through creating a characterful dog in clay.

Bring photographs if there's a particular four-legged character you'd like to capture. 🐶

Kate brings an extraordinary amount of experience to the table, including her previous work as a model maker and prop creator for Aardman, home of Wallace & Gromit, but her approach to teaching means you don't need to arrive with years of sculpting experience behind you.

Just come ready to spend the day making.

Meet Alli 👋 Studio Manager at The Clayrooms Loughborough and the person behind our new With Alli posts.

Alli’s Clayrooms journey started at our Ashbourne pottery studio in 2019 before she moved to Loughborough in 2023 to help open and manage the studio.

Today, she teaches pottery classes in Loughborough, including five-week wheel throwing and handbuilding courses, one-off pottery workshops, special events and masterclasses.

She’s also a ceramicist herself, creating monochrome homeware inspired by Brutalist architecture using black clay and dark grey glazes.

Over the coming weeks, Alli will be taking you behind the scenes at The Clayrooms Loughborough, sharing pottery tips, studio life, works in progress, workshops and plenty of freshly fired ceramics.

Member of the Month | Peak District Pottery Studio 🏺

Sometimes the biggest step forward in pottery isn't learning another technique.

Over the past few weeks Diane has really taken time with every stage of her making, experimenting with oxides, underglazes and different clay bodies to create a beautiful collection of handmade ceramics for her home and garden.
